In a typical organization PSD’s report directly to the VP of either Operations or Manufacturing. PSD have 2 different roles depending on the type of business. For a Project Company (in charge of professional services) and for a Product Company (in charge of Field Services)

What are the job responsibilities of PSD?

Their biggest responsibility is to manage team of people; with related equipment/software, resources; to deliver project objectives within allocated time and budget. More specifically they use these strategies to deliver results.

  1. Own the service strategy and roadmap: what methodologies and tools to select and deploy
  2. Build revenue, profitability and other KPI forecasts: For the fiscal year and for all services.
  3. Manage customer service related issues: Final arbiter of issues escalated as defined.
  4. Manage team members: Work with practice leaders, project managers and product line client support teams to resolve issues that are blocking the successful completion of projects.
  5. Collaborate with sales: Maintain growth and retention of customers.
  6. Assist in reviews: Opportunity and contract review and approval.

How does selecting the right ERP Software by the PSD’s move the needle forward to success? Following are 3 successful PSD stories.

  1. Charlie Hutchinson; CFO/PSD; IntraCoastal Environmental (ICE); Florida, Georgia, South Carolina; Business: Environmental services in the marine and industrial industries.

Challenge: Need a solution that helps its customers contain oil spillages by deploying an optimum mix of strategy, technique, equipment and talent around the clock, seven days a week, 365 days a year. At the same time, ICE had two sister companies still in their initial stages that would also require an ERP system to facilitate their further development. One, Vitalz, is a portal solution that serves healthcare providers and patients. The other, BizVibe, is a customer intelligence entity that collects customer experiences and feedback at the point of sale. ICE’s previous solution was QuickBooks Enterprise Contractor edition, a legacy system that failed to meet the trio’s multientity accounting requirements because each had different business models.

And the solution: They preferred a solution that required no customizations or additional integration to work, but was versatile enough to accommodate further development when required. Its tests showed that Acumatica was the best fit as it had the most features out-of-the-box at no extra cost, and it offered unparalleled customization capabilities. “Two years ago Acumatica that was missing a professional services automation module— so they rolled out Acumatica Project Accounting”.

  2. Darren Wilson; Senior Project Manager; PracticeMax; Scottsdale, AZ; Business: Medical Business Resource Center.
Challenge: As PracticeMax expanded rapidly through acquisitions relying on QuickBooks became a problem: “It was mainly a financial reporting issue and a business management issue. Accounting had a hard time keeping up.”

And the solution: With Acumatica, every employee can get access to ERP data, from wherever they are when they’re traveling. Our customers can get access to ERP data. They considered Oracle and SAP, Wilson says, “They probably could’ve pulled off everything we wanted them to do, but it would’ve cost us millions more… Their pricing model was user-based.” Acumatica was not.
